Even though the small meteorological station on my desk has been forecasting heavy snow for at least 24 hours now, not even a single snow flake has come from the sky.

This makes me wonder, on which information the precipitation forecast is based. Is there any relation between the barometric pressure and the precipitation? I highly doubt so. This makes me believe that the forecast is simply backed on the entirety of temperature and (outer) air humidity. If anyone knows the glorious details, leave a comment or let me know.

Disclaimer: When it comes to meteorology, I tend to know nothing.
