Intolerable Cruelty is a surprisingly entertaining romantic comedy featuring George Clooney and the yummy Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The story is built around Miles Massey (Clooney), a divorce attorney, and Marylin Rexroth (Zeta-Jones), who is specialized in making money out of her numerous divorces. Apart from the two, a bunch of minor characters appear, of which Heinz, the Baron Krauss von Espy, and Wheezy Joe, an asthmatic hit man, are probably the most jutting ones. Joe sends himself to kingdom come in a scene with an asthma inhaler and a gun; people knowing other Coen movies might be able to figure out the details ...
If one does not expect too much out of the plot, then Intolerable Cruelty is a nice piece of work: The plot is simple and straightforward and after the first few minutes one can easily predict the outcome. Nonetheless it's the right thing for a pleasant evening entertainment and thus gets 6 out of 10 points.
