Perseus has conducted a survey about weblogs. Here are the results.

Personally I do not consider the survey to be really representative: First of all, they ignored the Blogger.com-hosted weblogs. Secondly they did not take into account all the weblogs that are powered by Movabletype & Co. on private sites. And I can truly imagine that the blogging habbits of people that "just" signed up for an account at a blog-mass-hoster are pretty much different than the habbits of people who are running their own blog setup: The first group probably just got an account for the sake of it and lost interest soon, while the second group has planned ahead by using a dedicated system, is much more interested in the stuff and thus blogs much more regularly.

Perhaps Jim can extract some related numbers from blo.gs?
